A Canvas of Calm

Holistic Creative Therapy Workshops

Holistic Creative Therapy Workshops are more than a therapeutic practice and not just an arts and craft workshop but a special space in the middle.

At A Canvas of Calm we help individuals who are struggling with life’s transitions to reconnect with their confidence, identity and inner self, through creative practices.

No artistic skills/experience needed.

What is it?

Holistic creative therapy is an integrative approach to healing that combines creative expression with attention to the whole person body, mind, emotions .rather than treating symptoms in isolation. It uses artistic processes (painting, drawing, collage, movement, creative writing, clay, music, drama and journalling) as both a therapeutic medium and a pathway to deeper self-understanding, regulation and transformation.

Who benefits ?

  • People experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, chronic pain or stress.

  • Those seeking self‑discovery, identity work, confidence or life transitions.

  • Individuals who find verbal therapy limiting, or who respond better to embodied, sensory or symbolic approaches.

  • Groups or organisations seeking shared expression, connection and collective healing.

Typical elements of a session

  • Check‑in: noticing body sensations, mood and intentions.

  • Warm-up: simple creative or movement exercises to engage the senses.

  • Main creative work: using chosen media to explore a theme, sensation or issue.

  • Processing and reflection: discussing the artwork, metaphors and emotional responses; connecting insights to life outside therapy.

  • Closing: grounding activities and planning for safety or integration between sessions.

Evidence and practice

Research shows creative therapies can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, aid trauma recovery, improve emotional regulation and foster resilience..

Rachel

Holistic Creative Facilitator-Mbe HICAT

I'm a holistic creative therapist who believes that healing happens when we are given the space to reconnect with ourselves through creativity, compassion, and mindful awareness. My workshops offer a gentle, supportive environment where people can explore self-expression, build resilience, and nurture emotional wellbeing using creative practices that encourage reflection, curiosity, and personal growth.

My approach is shaped not only by my professional experience but also by my own journey. Having navigated anxiety and depression during difficult life transitions, I understand how overwhelming change can feel and how powerful creative and holistic practices can be in supporting healing. This lived experience allows me to meet others with empathy, authenticity, and without judgement, creating a safe space where participants feel seen, supported, and encouraged to move forward at their own pace.

Opportunities to work with me

I design and facilitate bespoke holistic creative workshops tailored to the unique needs of community groups, this can be a one off workshop or a 6 week programme for example.

Working with a wide range of participants, including Women's Sheds, Men's Sheds, menopause support groups, carers' groups, and other community organisations, I create inclusive, welcoming spaces where people can connect, express themselves, and improve their wellbeing through creativity.

Every workshop is carefully adapted to suit the group's interests, abilities, and goals, combining creative activities with a holistic approach that promotes confidence, social connection, mindfulness, and personal wellbeing.

My aim is to provide meaningful, enjoyable experiences that support mental, emotional, and social health while encouraging participants to learn new skills, share experiences, and build stronger community connections.

Testimonials

We had a menopause night in our local community centre, and Rachel was one of our special guests where she did a creative workshop taster. It was such a relaxing experience , listening to the music, connecting with our emotions, and just allowing ourselves to be creative. I was honestly surprised by what came out of it. Rachel created such a calm and supportive space, and I’d definitely recommend her for a workshop. TW.
